No Matter the Length of The Road it Starts with One Step

Fridays are bin day where I live. One week it is general rubbish (Black bin) and the next it is recyclables and composting (Blue & Brown bin). Or as it is on my calendar black bin or blue bin, as I rarely put down the brown bin as I do my own composting as I have a flower and vegetable garden.

This week it was blue bin.

When I awakened, I heard the first bins getting collected. They collect the composting first then within the hour the second one comes for the recyclables.

As I awoke, I really didn’t want to get up, but the blue bin was full, and I knew I had too. I knew as soon as I got out of bed that was the hard job done.

It’s often that first step that is the hardest—just getting started.

What so many people do is they replay the entire journey in their head, which puts them off from even beginning. Using my simple morning challenge as an example.

If I had off thought about getting out of bed then getting changed, then going out in the cold morning air, I might have just lay there and regretted that decision for the next two weeks as all the rubbish built up.

Very often in life, we build small things into big things, and it results in us never even starting. Then 2-3 years down the road we regret not making a few sacrifices.

I once read that the pain of discipline weighs ounces, but the weight of regret weights tonnes. Something as simple as getting out of bed early each morning can have a massive impact on your life.

The journey of a million miles starts with one step, make that step today.
