A life lived and shared that is no more.
Think before you speak and you will be happier.
For many happiness is a mystery, but not for me.
Giving to others is where happiness originates. And giving does not mean money, it means time, energy, a listening ear.
It is my belief that each and every one of us, religious or not has a ministry to live out. Each of us has a mission that we must fulfil.
Ministry is best known for the spreading of faith, but for me ministry goes much deeper than that. Any way that you help others live better lives could be called a ministry.
You will find that if you are not working a job where you directly change peoples lives for the better, you will be unhappy and unfulfilled. You will not enjoy going to work and will find yourself living for the weekend.
I’m sure you know people like this?
This year has been tough, and it’s so easy to get lost within our problems, trying to make sense of it all. The problem is everyone is just as fearful and afraid so any search for answers will only leave you worse off.
If you are feeling depressed or unhappy at this time, the best thing that you can do is to help others. You will find that your world will seem so much brighter if you offer others a helping hand.
Whether that be in the form of visiting an elderly neighbour or letting a relation on the other side of the world know that you care. Even a text message to someone can make their day.
It’s important to remember that everyone is going through the same as you. Each with their own fears. So let now be a time when we join together and help each other out in any way that we can.
Where we show our communities that even though there is a lot of fear and hostility in the world. There is still an ocean of love.
One of the most memorable passages of scripture is found in Luke 11:1, where it says: One day, Jesus was praying in a certain place. When he finished, one of his disciples said to him. “Lord, teach us to pray.”
Jesus was modelling prayer to the disciples by spending long hours in prayer. They saw that he had something they didn’t. They saw that Jesus had a connection with God, and they desired to have the same.
The interesting thing is that the disciples never said, “Lord, teach us to preach, or, Lord, teach us to heal, or, Lord, teach us to perform miracles.”
They said plain and simple, “Lord, teach us to pray. This suggests that the most important lesson that we can learn is how to pray.
Jesus’ disciples saw the need to pray. They saw what prayer meant to the life of Jesus, and they knew that the solution to every problem was prayer. They knew that the only way to build up Christian character was through prayer. They knew that for them to have power, they would need a powerful prayer life.
So they said, “Lord, teach us to pray.
Garden of Gethsemane
Just before His arrest, Jesus was in the Garden of Gethsemane, and He said to His disciples, “Watch and pray so that you will not fall into temptation. The spirit is willing, but the flesh is weak” (Matthew 26:41).
The command came after Jesus had found the disciples sleeping instead of praying (verses 38–40). He had warned them that they needed to stay awake and pray with Him, but “their eyes were heavy” (verse 43), and they kept falling asleep. They slept right up until the time the armed mob came to take Jesus away (verses 45–47).
Unless we pray daily, we too will fall asleep, asleep to the effect our negative feelings and emotions are having on us. We want things to get better; we want our faith to be strengthened.
We have the best of intentions, but the temptation to worry, doubt and be fearful takes control. The temptation to be angry, to judge others, to hold onto unforgiveness, pain, and regrets, is just too much.
Our spirit is willing, but the flesh is weak.
Having More Faith
An essential part of faith is to realise that fear and faith cannot exist at the same time; it’s like a tossed coin; it’s either heads or tails its impossible to be both.
This is why Apostle Paul tells us in 1 Thessalonians 5:17 to ‘pray without ceasing.
Daily prayer means that fear doesn’t dominate your thought life, which means that you spend less time thinking about your problems and more time focusing on solutions.
So no matter what situation you find yourself in, PRAY.
Prayer lifts you to highs that you cannot reach on your own—giving you strength, confidence, and faith—giving you the power to overcome all negativity.
If you are feeling anxious, confused or angry at this time, pray. With the weapon of prayer, you are capable of doing great things.
Fridays are bin day where I live. One week it is general rubbish (Black bin) and the next it is recyclables and composting (Blue & Brown bin). Or as it is on my calendar black bin or blue bin, as I rarely put down the brown bin as I do my own composting as I have a flower and vegetable garden.
This week it was blue bin.
When I awakened, I heard the first bins getting collected. They collect the composting first then within the hour the second one comes for the recyclables.
As I awoke, I really didn’t want to get up, but the blue bin was full, and I knew I had too. I knew as soon as I got out of bed that was the hard job done.
It’s often that first step that is the hardest—just getting started.
What so many people do is they replay the entire journey in their head, which puts them off from even beginning. Using my simple morning challenge as an example.
If I had off thought about getting out of bed then getting changed, then going out in the cold morning air, I might have just lay there and regretted that decision for the next two weeks as all the rubbish built up.
Very often in life, we build small things into big things, and it results in us never even starting. Then 2-3 years down the road we regret not making a few sacrifices.
I once read that the pain of discipline weighs ounces, but the weight of regret weights tonnes. Something as simple as getting out of bed early each morning can have a massive impact on your life.
The journey of a million miles starts with one step, make that step today.
I believe we all have great ideas; the problem however is… we tend to overthink things to the point that we don’t do anything, or take so long that the moment has passed before we strike.
Which naturally leads onto, how can we stop doing this?
Well, the answer is not complicated. It’s not some 10 step process that you will forget. Its very simple.
As the famous Nike slogan goes, Just Do It.
Will your first attempt be excellent, probably not. But by just doing what your thinking of doing no matter how bad the first attempt. You have started.
Just starting puts you ahead of 90% of the people that say, “someday.”
The fastest road to happiness is a road we would all like to travel.
If there is such a road, why do we not travel it more often?
Life can have so many distractions, add on top of that the amount of fear and uncertainty around at the moment, and it’s easy to understand why people may think happiness is a step too far.
Well, in my experience, happiness is never too far away.
Many people say that I must have been blessed with happiness, I say blessed because I’m happy most of the time. And if I were to put into words why. Why I’m happy most of the time, I would have to say it is because I put others in front of myself. I pick up on peoples gifts and talents and then let them know, through praise and acknowledgement.
Sounds too easy, right?
Attaining happiness can’t be that easy. Can it? A few simple words to a stranger?
Well, put it into action yourself. The next time you have a good meal, send a message to the chef. Walk by a painter painting a sign, highlight his/her skills. Taxi driver leaves you off compliment there driving.
These are the little moments that don’t take much time, but they add so much value to others, and in the process, they make you happy.
As it says in the good book, give, and you shall receive. So give compliments, encouragement, and praise everywhere you go this weekend and see how much happiness you receive.
Be the voice of hope you want to hear.
No matter who you are or where you are reading this from there is a good chance that you would benefit from a nice rest, whether that be lying on a beach, or a holiday adventure.
2020 has been a difficult year for all.
Yesterday I decided if I couldn’t have the resting holiday that I know my spirit needs I would have a change. Deciding to change around my living space..
Waking up this morning was like being in a new place. The light was different, I heard the outside noises in a different way. Rather than just getting ready on auto pilot I had to think about where I had put certain items, as most things had a new home.
My whole morning was a refreshing change that has helped me greatly, and thought was worth mentioning. As any kind of change gets the mind to process information in a different way.
