Would You Sell What You Have For A Million Dollars?

There was a young man who lived in Manchester England, who had been a successful DJ who had DJ’ed at the hacienda with names like Sasha and Graeme Park.

He had been at the right place at the right time and had made a lot of money. I met him years later when I was doing a course in the city. He was now teaching as he had lost the entire fortune he had made.

Nothing seemed to ever faze him, he didn’t seem to worry about anything. during one of our meeting I asked him how he kept from worrying about his past mistakes, and everything he had lost; and he went on the tell me an inspiring story that I will never forget.

I used to worry a lot; he said, ‘but one spring day in 1995, I was walking down Gaunt St, London when I saw a sight that banished all my worries.

It all happened in within minutes, but during those few minutes I learned more about life than I had learned in the previous 30 years.

In 1995 is when I hit rock bottom, my lavish life caught up with me. Not only had I spent all my money but I owed money all over the country for tabs I couldn’t pay which meant that I could no longer get bookings.

I was going to my bank to borrow some money so could go to Southampton to look for a job. I walked like a beaten man. I had lost all my fight and faith.

Then I seen a man coming down the street on a wheelchair who had no legs, He stopped beside me wait to cross the road when the light went green. I didn’t feel like talking as I had a lot of worries on my mind. Then he greeted me with a glowing smile, ‘Good morning, sir, It is a fine morning, isn’t it? he said with spirit.

As I stood looking down at him, I realised how rich I was. I had two legs. I could walk. I felt ashamed of my self-pity. I said to myself if this little fellow can be happy, cheerful, and confident without legs, I certainly can with legs.

As I crossed the road I had already a spring in my step.

I had intended to ask the Bank for only £1000. But now I had courage to ask for two thousand. I had intended to say that I wanted the money to go to Southampton to try to get a job. But now I announced confidently that I wanted to go to Southampton to get a job.

I got the loan; and I got the job.

I now have the following words pasted the mirror in my hall, and I read them every morning as I leave the house;

I had the blues because I had no shoes,
until upon the street, I met a man who had no feet?

What would you sell both your legs for? Million dollars?

What about your hands? Or eyes?

Add up all your assets, and you will find that you wouldn’t sell what you have for all the gold in the land.

In sharing this story, the young man taught me a valuable lesson about perspective and gratitude. Through the encounter with the man in the wheelchair, he found a renewed sense of appreciation for the things he once took for granted.

The memory of that moment remained etched in his mind, a constant reminder that no matter the challenges he faced, his own circumstances were far from dire.

His story serves as a vital reminder that true wealth lies not just in monetary possessions, but in the gratitude we cultivate for the invaluable treasures life bestows upon us.

8 Ways To Overcome Worry Today

Worry is a natural part of life, and it is something that everyone experiences from time to time. However, when worry becomes excessive and persistent, it can harm our mental and physical health. It can cause us to feel anxious, stressed, and depressed and interfere with our ability to function effectively in our daily lives.

If you find yourself worrying excessively, here are 8 strategies you can try to help you get over your worries and find peace of mind.

  1. Identify the source of your worry. Often, worry is fueled by our fears and concerns about the future. It can be helpful to take a step back and identify the specific things causing you to worry. Are you worried about your job, relationship, health, or something else? Once you have identified the source of your worry, you can start to work on finding solutions and taking action to address your concerns.
  2. Challenge negative thoughts. Our thoughts play a significant role in how we feel; when we worry, we tend to have negative, irrational, and unrealistic thoughts. Challenging these thoughts and replacing them with more realistic and positive ones can be helpful. For example, if you think, “I’m going to fail my exams,” try to reframe that thought as “I have studied hard and am prepared for my exams. I may not get the grades I want, but that doesn’t define my worth as a person.”
  3. Practice mindfulness. Mindfulness is the practice of being present in the moment without judgment. It involves paying attention to your thoughts, feelings, and sensations in a non-reactive way. When you worry, you tend to get caught up in your thoughts and concerns about the future and lose touch with the present moment. By practising mindfulness, you can learn to let go of your worries and focus on the present, which can help to reduce stress and anxiety.
  4. Take action. If you are worried about something specific, it can be helpful to take action to address the problem. This might involve seeking help or support, making a plan, or taking steps to resolve the issue. By taking action, you can feel more in control of your life and more capable of dealing with your worries.
  5. Seek support. Sometimes, it can be helpful to talk to someone about your worries. This might be a friend, family member, or mental health professional. Talking about your concerns can help you feel less alone and give you a different perspective on your situation.
  6. Practice relaxation techniques. Many relaxation techniques can help to reduce stress and anxiety, including deep breathing, progressive muscle relaxation, and meditation. These techniques can help calm your mind and body and provide you with a sense of relaxation and peace.
  7. Get regular exercise. Exercise has been shown to have several benefits for mental health, including reducing stress and anxiety. It can be helpful to incorporate regular exercise into your routine, whether it is going for a walk, running, swimming, or participating in a sport or fitness class.
  8. Take care of your physical health. Our physical health can significantly impact our mental health, and it is essential to take care of ourselves by getting enough sleep, eating a healthy diet, and practising self-care.

Implementing these strategies allows you to cope with your worries and find peace of mind. It may not be easy, but with time and practice, you can develop the skills and resilience to handle your worries and live a happier, more fulfilling life.

Short Story on Worry

Once upon a time, in a small village nestled in the rolling hills of a faraway land, there lived a man named Jacob. Jacob was a kind and hardworking man, and he was well-respected by all the other villagers.

Despite his many good qualities, however, Jacob had one flaw: he worried excessively. He worried about everything, from the weather to the crops to the health of his family. No matter what was happening, Jacob always seemed to find something to worry about.

One day, as Jacob was tending to his fields, he noticed that the sky was growing dark and ominous. “Oh no,” he thought to himself, “I knew it was going to rain. Now my crops will be ruined, and I’ll have nothing to sell at market.”

As the rain began to fall, Jacob’s worries only grew. He thought about all the time and effort he had put into his crops, and how all of it would now be for naught. He worried about how he would feed his family and pay his bills, and he even began to worry about things that had yet to happen.

As the rain continued to pour, Jacob became more and more anxious. He paced back and forth, muttering to himself and wringing his hands. Finally, he couldn’t take it anymore. He ran to the village square and shouted out to the other villagers.

“Why is everyone so calm?” he yelled. “Don’t you see what’s happening? The rain is ruining everything! We’re all going to starve!”

The other villagers, who had been going about their business as usual, stopped and looked at Jacob in surprise. “Jacob,” said the village elder, “we’ve had rain before, and we’ll have it again. It’s a natural part of life. Worrying won’t change anything.”

Jacob didn’t listen. He continued to worry and fret, convinced that the rain would bring nothing but disaster. But as the days passed, the rain stopped, and the sun began to shine once more. The crops that Jacob had worried about so much flourished, and he ended up having one of the best harvests of his life.

In the end, Jacob learned that worrying was a waste of time and energy. He realized that he couldn’t control the weather or the future, and that the only thing he could control was how he chose to react to the events of life. From that day on, he tried his best to let go of his worries and embrace the present moment, and he lived a much happier and more fulfilling life as a result.

Personalise Gods Promises

promise

When I am afraid, I will put my trust in you. Psalm 56:3 NLT

Underlying your deepest fears — are thoughts. They may be expressed publicly or entertained privately. Either way, you must be aware of them and change them. If you don’t, they will capture and control you.

One of the most powerful weapons God has given you for conquering fear and worry is the ability to personalise His promises.

Here are just a few: don’t be afraid… you are mine. When you go through the deep waters and deep trouble, I will be with you. When you go through rivers of difficulty, you will not drown! When you walk through the fire of oppression… the flames will not consume you, for I am the Lord your God’ (Isaiah 43:1-3 TLB).

And what should your response to Gods promise be? “I will be strong, vigorous, and very courageous. I will not be afraid, neither will I be dismayed, for the Lord my God is with me where ever I go’ (see Joshua 1:9 AMPC).

‘The Lords’s eye is upon me because I fear Him [revere and worship Him with awe] and because I trust in his mercy and loving-kindness’ (see Psalm 33:18 AMPC).

‘When I am tempted to have a fearful and hasty heart, I will say to myself, be strong, fear not! My God will come… and save me’ (see Isaiah 35:4 AMPC).

‘The Lord is my light and my salvation… whom shall I fear?… when troubles come. He will hide me. He will set me on a high rock out of reach of all my enemies. Then I will… sing his praise with much joy’ (Psalm 27:1, 5-6 TLB).

Do you want to overcome your fears and worries? Personalise God’s Promises!

How To Think Like God?

butterfly

When you go beyond simply reading your bible and take time to meditate each day on its truths, you begin to think like God. And when that happens your life changes for the better.

Peter was so dependent on the words of Jesus that he said, “To whom shall we go? Thou hast the of eternal life.” (John 6:68 KJV). And job said, I have treasured the words of his mouth more than my daily bread.” (Job 23:12NIV 2011 Edition)

How often do you set time aside to meditate on the Scriptures?

As you meditate on God word you develop a mindset that enables you to rise above your fears. ‘My word will not return to me empty. But will accomplish what I desire and achieve the purpose for which I sent it’ (Isaiah 55:11 NIV Edition).

Did you get that?

God’s word will accomplish Gods purposes in your life. That why meaningless things over you finding the time to read the bible and pray. The truth is, you don’t find time, you make it!

The prophet Isaiah said, ‘Morning by morning he wakens me and opens my understanding to his will’ (Isaiah 50:4 NLT).

In a world that’s often devoid of commitment God promises. ‘I won’t give up on you. I’ll keep working on you until you’re clear in your perceptions, strong in your faith, and balanced in your spiritual walk. As you meditate on My precepts, you’ll start moving in a new direction. And when that happens, your life will begin to prosper.’

So, begin today — meditate on God’s word.

Enjoy your day. 🙂

Is Today the Tomorrow You Where Talking About Yesterday?

Procrastination

When you squander or lose your money, there’s a chance you get it back. But not when you squander or lose your time.

One of the saddest stories in scripture is found in these words. Another said, “i will follow you, Lord; but first let me go back and say goodbye to my family.” But nowhere is it recorded that he followed Jesus.

And procrastination and perfectionism go hand in hand. We say, “If i cant do it right, I won’t do it at all.” No, before you get it right you’ll probably get it wrong. In every story of success there are chapters of struggle, but they are the chapters of learning and growth.

A study was done at Yale University. Graduating seniors were told of the dangers of tetanus and given the opportunity to get a free inoculation at the health centre. While a majority of the students were convinced they needed the shot, guess how many followed through and got the vaccine? Three per cent!

Another group was given the same lecture, but also given a copy of the campus map with the location of the health centre circled on it. They were then asked to look at their weekly schedules and figure out when they could find the time to get the shot.

Guess what?

Nine times as many studentss got inoculated. Good intentions arent enough. You need to make the call, or make the move. You need to set the deadline, or set the appointment.

Today is the tomorrow you were talking about yesterday. So stop procrastinating, write a list, and just do it.
